KBEM resident rotation
The resident POCUS rotation
The program runs the one-month point-of-care ultrasound rotation for residents of the Kuwait Board of Emergency Medicine (KBEM).
During the rotation
What residents do
Residents scan at the bedside and log each scan on their phone in the resident logbook. A senior, either a fellow or a faculty member, then confirms the scan.
Only senior-confirmed scans count towards the requirements. These are called determinate scans. Rotation directors can see in the logbook who is on track.

Requirements
What each rotation requires
Counts are senior-confirmed (determinate) scans. The cap is the most scans that count in that row.
| Application | Required | Cap |
|---|---|---|
| Core: 25 in each | ||
| Cardiac + IVC | 25 | 50 |
| Aorta | 25 | 50 |
| E-FAST | 25 | 50 |
| Pelvic / OBGYN | 25 | 50 |
| Gallbladder | 25 | 50 |
| Electives: 10 in total | ||
| Any combination of electivesOcular, Bowel, Testicular, MSK, Renal, DVT, Other | 10 | 25 |
That is at least 135 senior-confirmed scans per rotation: 25 in each of the five core applications and 10 across the electives.

A progress evaluation halfway through the month.
End-of-rotation evaluation
A final evaluation at the end of the rotation.

Each resident presents a case during the rotation.
Senior confirmation
How a scan gets confirmed
Fellows and faculty act as the seniors who confirm residents' scans.

The resident scans at the bedside and logs the scan on their phone.

Resident logbook
Open the resident logbook
Residents open the logbook with the personal link their rotation director sends them. Patient privacy is built in: MRNs are hashed, and clips are cropped on the phone before upload.
